Massachusetts Man Pays Off Mortgage in Pennies

A sweet final pay-off of a home mortgage for a Milford, Mass., man left bank officials counting thousands upon thousands of pennies.

Thomas Daigle delivered more than 62,000 pennies to make his final mortgage payment to the Milford Federal Savings and Loan Association.

Daigle told The Milford Daily News that he always intended to make his final mortgage payment “memorable.”

For 35 years, Daigle saved his pennies, picking pennies up over the years and telling his wife that it was going to pay the mortgage. He strived to collect at least two to three pennies, on average, a day.

“Pennies add up,” Daigle says.
